Company of Heroes: Mission 6 ?Cherbourg?
Regarding [12] - the coastal guns battery and 'you can't move [the AA Flak 38]' - I am however able to man the AA Flak 38 (these are the guns on the right - not the AT gun on left which is on wheels). With it I'm able to open the battery doors, destroy the contents of the battery and thence use the 'exit building' button to retrieve my squad. You might not be able to move the weapon, but you can use it without penalty. I found this a great alternative to bringing up a tank or manning an AT gun.

This is a rather interesting and diversive mission, especially on the HARD setting, thus my approach:

1) take one bazooka for a squad and have another join up (moving fast so you do not get sniped) and move to the ammo point near the channel (harbor port) area. Take this point and be prepared for an Axis counter to reclaim it. My armor arrives with the point taken and you can clear the counterattacks easier, and the snipers (with the croc)

2) luckily the square where your HQ is does not have any heavy AT so assault with your Sherman and Croc. An Oestwind will show up, use the normal M4 to take it out and the croc for any troops.

3) with the HQ secure, take the ammo points and free supplies (ammo and fuel) laying around

4) get an engineer squad at work building a weapons center, supply yard, and tank depot, also build a medic station

5) build as many M4 Shermans as you can, you will need them for the HARD setting, move forward with the croc and burn out any Axis that are in your way

6) as you advance, have engineers pick up light MG42`s and stay with the croc, soon armor and the artillary spotter become visible, but wait as a Stug is down there as well (on HARD anyway)

7) at the main approach to the bridge, from your HQ side, hold off doing so and take out waves of Axis infantry assault--advance slowly and you can get to the coastal gun

8) the push there is frought with amushes and peril so get a halftrack (motor pool first of course) with a quad and move up the field to replace yuor depleted rifle squads

9) work your way toward the guns staying away from that bridge, I put some defenses there on NORMAL setting and they were ambushed so many times it wasn`t funny

10) the sniper can take out the AT guns, moving around between kills to avoid prolonged detection

11) at the coastal battery, again methodically advance and have the quad half track ready for suppression

12) after the battery is annilated, wait wait wait for your ammo points to build before going toward the bridge approach

13) with around 2500 ammo points you have enough for several artillary salvos from the USS Texas, so use your sniper and move forward to the bridgehead on the opposite bank and call in barrages to wipe out hunkered down Axis in buildings, and also the square where some Stugs await

14) move across quickly and secure the far shore, moving your sniper toward the Axis forward base (where the StrumPanzer HQ is)

15) use more artillary and wipe this out

16) another "stand down" cycle here as you build up ammo points for the push to the Axis HQ at the point of the Cherborg entrance meanwhile build another quad for infantry suppression, and lock out your rear areas with tank traps and MG nests

17) with your ammo bank at around 2000, start the push with a feining move along the eastern fire lanes toward the Axis HQ

18) I took 2 M4`s and the croc with support "rangers" to deal with the medal of saving the port from the Axis, move in quickly and this can be accomplished

19) the push up toward the Axis HQ is through narrow lanes, watch for Panzershrek squads

20) that quad halftrack you brought along should stay in the reaf of your advance to provide depleted units with replacements to restore strength

21) have your engineers build a medic station before you begin the assault, and max out your infantry allotment so when the "free" squad becomes available (which this assault will cause to happen), you get it as a bonus

22) use the classic assault of sniper (to reveal enemy), artillary to soften, then armor and infantry

23) at the HQ, just blast the structure with directed USS Texas fire

(Expert level:) If block every entry and guard it, u can advance with the rest of your troops. And if you do that 1 at base then at bridge and then at entry to last mole, your remaining troops completely outnumbers the enemies.

When you have taken the first mole, you have so much ammo, that you can just keep guarding the bridge and only cross it with a sniper recon to practical whip out everything southeast of it.

To get the medal just be prepared with great force to run north on middle-mole. Event will trigger when u proceed in that direction, and there will be AT-cannons respawning regularly from there. Make sure u have 1 200 ammo bombardment ready to bomb end of middle-mole when u have to take it out quickly....

Great walkthrough.

One quibble, though:

At step 13, instead of razing the houses at the east end of the bridge, I laid the naval artillery fire on the square behind (east) of them, greatly disrupting the Germans there. As soon as the barrage started, I put a smoke round between the bombardment and the bridge, and using a couple of AT weapons, the Croc, and the regular tank, cleared the houses from the bridge using the combination of smoke and artillery to get two rifle squads and my armor across pretty much intact. The buildings then provided flank cover for my tanks and sticky-bomb teams as they cleared the square of the remaining Germans before I pushed east. Once the square was cleared, the space between the water and buildings provided excellent cover for two mortar teams, from which I could easily disrupt German counterattacks. The mortars and an HMG squad between the buildings provided all the firepower I needed to hold the east end of the bridge indefinitely, allowing me to rotate my infantry back to HQ for reinforcements in comfort (and at one point, I "garaged" my Croc there for extensive repairs out of any possible German line of sight).

For a sniper-minded player, they would also be a good spot for a spotter/sniper nest.
