Just a comment on the non-linearity aspect of Gothic 3 vs the previous editions. The original gothic was non-linear only for Chapter 1, and then only in that you could complete the membership quests for each of the three factions up to the point of choosing one. From there on the game was pretty much linear. Likewise, in Gothic 2, the game was non-linear up to the point of choosing a path, except you could only work two of the factions, once you entered the monastery, you were locked into pursuing the mage path. But each path then became linear and pretty much the same. Gothic 3 by design has become completely non-linear, you are free to do what ever you please, but of course, there are consequences for those choices. Many thing can not be undone and it is possible to reach a stalemate, that is, a point in the game where you can not reach the conclusion because something or someone is no longer available because of choices that you made along the way. Many of the questions throughout this guide are related to choices made early in the game that the player can not (without cheats) recover from. Thus, my continuing warnings about making hasty decisions on liberating camps//towns (other than Ardea, Gotha, and Vengard) early in the game. Complete all quests, except the decider ones, for each location, move to the next location, do likewise, then on to Varant/Nordmar and do the same. Note: to gain access to Ishtar requires 75 reputation with Hashishin. To reach that you will have to kill some groups of Nomads and at least some of the water mages, no other way to get there. If you fight, you will not get the experience (see section on Ishtar) for the quests given there. As the guardian of the Holy Grail says 'Choose wisely'.

Tip number 19 is not accurate; having 50 or greater reputation with any faction is not a problem. The orc leader will only order an attack after you have liberated the third town in Myrtanna (not counting Ardea, Gotha, or Vengard). Likewise, the hashishin town leader will order an attack after you have liberated the second town in Varant. Not sure what the threshold on destroyed rebel camps is, but again it is not reputation level.

Mostly, eye candy and a source of revenue, though you need a shovel to exhume human graves, those with a human skull and crossbones, you need a pickaxe to prospect at veins. And you need a Smith's hammer, not to be confused with a regular hammer, to smith weapons. It should require you to have a knife, if you have no sword, to skin animals. With a saw you can saw a log, but you get nothing other than exercise. Eventually you will need a quantity of hammers, saws, and pickaxes as a quest in Venguard.

BTW, there is no hostility threshold for the rebel camps, you just get a lecture each time you speak to the camp leader. They are all dead in my latest game, had to do it to get orc faction rep to gain access (peacefully) to Vak. Wanted to do that at least once to see what options open up, Answer not much. You get quest to kill all the rebel leaders, which you almost have to do to get to 75 to see him in the first place, and you get the quest to kill Rhobar.

BTW, my rebel faction rating is greater than 50, and I am wearing Paladin armor. No orc or hashishin cares a whit. Rune sword with Rune shield is still better than two sword mastery abilities. Two sword is better until you find the rune shield, then your best sword (Rune gets my vote) along with the shield is much better.

When you are near a node it will show a nick such as 'Ore Vein', and if you have a pickaxe, just click, and your guy should wield the pickaxe, and pick about three times, then stop, and it will then put up a message about how much ore or whatever you acquired. Actually the prospector skill just doubles the booty, you can prospect the veins without it, but you should not since you only get half. You can only prospect a vein once, after that you get the voicetrack, about nothing to be found here. BTW, after prospecting you will have to re equip your weapon. The veins that are manned (NPC already prospecting), you must wait until they take a break or move away, you can then prospect there, but you can not shove them out of the way. You can attack them, but that is not always wise, usually there are guards and that becomes an act of hostility.

Though it has been answered dozens of times in various sections in this guide forum, one more time. The 'coup de grace' is executed by holding down the right mouse button while then pressing the left. You must be locked onto the victim (their Nick and health bar displays), and any blow by others including range attacks will cancel. When facing groups of orcs, when you execute the coup de grace on the highest ranking member (leader) of the group, all others will then die in normal battle. In some cases, you will need to know rank among orcs, it is not that difficult to figure out. This also is needed for human opponents.

hey i have a few questions,: does ancient knowlegde increases your spells power?

if your take a rebel as your teammate and go in a city occupied of the orcs do they attack each other (as in taking copper form reddock to cape dun) and if you transform in a animal and then kill someone will the others pursue you even if you are back in human form??

much thanks

yes, ancient knowledge has some effect on spell power, although I do not know the exact relationship, though you should be able to check it.

Not sure about the companion thing, but I think the ones where they just accompany you (come with me), they don't get hostile unless you do. Of cousre the ones where you 'lets go liberate _____' will start fighting immediately. Never thought about the tranformation thing, seems to me that they might pursue you as long as you remain within sight, but if they don't see the transformation, then likely not.

Overall I really enjoyed the game but found that although it is non linear it tends to lack structure because of it. I completed most quests and gained acceptance into the rebel faction very early, around day 10, which enabled me to have paladin armor and a fire sword. These were all that I needed throughout the game and didn't seem to find it necessary to upgrade. I collected almost every plant I came across and every item from chests opened. I realised after a false start that it was best not to alienate any faction but play neutral untill day 35 when I saved the game and firstly joined with innos which took 8 hours to complete the game because I needed to free all Myrtana from Orcs to be rewarded by a lame slideshow. Then I reloaded and allied with Zardas after killing Rhobar and Zuben I spent about an hour following Zardas to find that the game ends at the portal with a similar slideshow. That took about 3 hours. Quite dissapointing after all the hard work. I finished with more than 200 stat points spare, I never used or sold a plant and had over 8oo pieces of meat along with 200 000 gold and numerous other items. The fighting seemed to be nothing more than wearing out my left mouse button. Looking back on it the quests seem to be just for the sake of having quests and even the main quests didnt seem that crytical other than the adinos's artifacts quest. It never seemed to get anywhere very slowly. At least in Gothic 2 we were transported to somewhere different for the grand Finale. Even now after all the time I spent playing it I wonder is it really over? What was the point of it all? Why so many empty caves? I was hoping that they would all be repopulated for a huge final quest as in Gothic 2. Did I miss out on something? Where was the super duper Armour I was hoping to find? Where was the huge macho sword that threw lightning with every swing? Such a dissapointing end. Did they run out of cash?

Will I buy the next one? Of course I will. There is nothing to touch it.

Maybe if the developers gave us the tools to modify and create our own Storylines within this fantastic world it would be the only game we ever needed.

Because they went so far with the non-linear aspects, there is no sequential narration, so it depends on who you talk to first, which part of the story you get, thus it is naturally disjointed, and at times non-sensical. Overall I liked it but not as much as 2 or the original, mostly due to the lack of a structured story line.

Hi, I really like that game, it is almost as good as Oblivion IV sometimes freezes, or the dead characters end up somewhere in the midst of the air, well, I do have a question, after killing the Ortega and his bandits there is a pig or something above the fire pit and there is a commend to "spit" when near it, so I left clicked and my character was just helping it to roast, what else is it supposed to do? I was hoping for some pieces of meat but after doing for a long time nothing happened - did I do something wrong? Was I missing some tools to finish the job?

No the pig roast is just eye candy. Nothing else happens, there are others like it in the game just eye candy.

Very simple, loot every dead body, every chest (you can get away with), and pick all the loose stuff; sell what you don't need, like all orc weapons. You should be rolling in dough in no time. Remember, the nameless hero (you) has an unlimited backpack, so much so, it is absurd. Thus leaving anything unpicked, no matter how trivial, is not logical. There is only a few things you actually need to buy, thus limit purchases to those items, everything else use what you find, and forge your own weapons. Use quest finds until you no longer need them, before turning in.

Oh almost forgot, do not avoid fights, do not drag mobs to towns or npc to kill for you, figure out how to do it yourself. And kill everything there are only a couple mobs that are near impossible to kill. Use terrain where you can to your advantage. And as already stated loot the bodies.

How deep, or wide, is the selection of armors in the game? So far, I´ve only found rebel and mercenary armor at sale, and in my opinion, none of them are especially good-looking. Does this change when I, for example, go to nordmar? The only quite appealing would be the paladin armor, and it costs more than I ever can afford. Happy for answers!

Though discussed throughly on other threads. There is only one armor in the game (I know of) better than paladin. You have to get your rebel faction reputation to 50 to buy it. By the time you get that you should have enough coin to buy it. And buying it is the only way to get it. As for shield the best is the Rune shield and you will find it eventually, can't buy one. Each armor you can get has it's good and bad points. And most you have to buy, though there are a couple which you get given to you. The best is a gift from Kan but comes too late in the game to do you much good, and is only marginally superior to Paladin. Better yes but not by much. Heat and cold resistance are important for Varant and Nordmar, resp. There are trainers for each and/or armors that give it, so be aware when you head out for those places. There are mage armors as well as hashishin in addition to those you mentioned. and Nordmarian armor. Can't think of much else. Oh, it does not matter to other factions which armor you sport, so you don't need more than one.

Long time bug, don't think it was ever fixed by any patch. Not required to finish the game, but unfortunately the skill points spent to try to learn are forever lost.
